Coatlicue is mother, Madre, la mera mera of all gods and goddesses and mortals. She represents both creation and destruction, reminding us as mujeres that we walk both sides of this borderland. She is Mother Earth in this work pictured with the ancestors, the nopales. This hardy cactus that has long been a symbol of the resilience of Mexican people on both sides of the man-made border providing food and shelter. Coatlicue reminds women to move forward in the creation of your life and destroy and abandon the things that do not support our highest good.
