In First Peoples tradition, we die three deaths. The first death, when our bodies cease to function; hearts no longer beat. Second death comes when the body is lowered into the ground, returned to mother earth. The third, most definitive, is when there is no one left alive to remember you and your name no longer spoken. Hundreds of thousands, generations, did not complete the journey across the U.S. Mexico border. For many the bodies are never identified or family notified; bodies of men women and children are buried with a white cross marker that reads No Olvidades, Not Forgotten.
